Best batteries for your portable gear
Panasonic’s Eneloop brand — new 4th generation rechargeable batteries.
Sorry, I do tend to use the terms ‘battery’ and ‘cell’ interchangeably. I do know the difference. Rechargeable batteries have come a long way in the last decade. And the new 4th generation Eneloop rechargeable batteries from Panasonic are terrific. I swear by them for all my handheld gear, portable weather radio, other battery-powered emergency gear, etc:
- Can be recharged thousands of times
- Maintains up to 70% of their charge after 5 years (even when not it use)
- AA and AAA sizes
- They arrive pre-charged and are immediately useable, but I always top them off before putting them into service or storage.
I have tried the cheaper rechargeables — have never been satisfied. But you get what you pay for.
My Midland portable weather radio, for example, can’t be turned off. It only has two modes, ON or STANDBY ALERT. So having batteries that keep it powered up for long periods of time is important when I travel or during AC power failures due to bad weather.
Try these 4th generation Eneloop rechargeable batteries from Panasonic. Highly recommended.
