Hands-on Review Koss SB-45 Headset
The Koss SB-45 headset is an inexpensive headset with great performance characteristics.
Koss is a well-respected audio company that has been in business since the 1950s.
I wanted to replace my W2ENY headset. Its boom mic was too short — it didn’t reach far enough to my mouth. I constantly found myself grabbing it to keep it closer to my lips. Annoying.
Having been off the air for a few decades until two years ago, the low-end W2ENY headset had nevertheless served me well. After all I was just testing the waters to see if I really wanted to get back into our beloved hobby full tilt. I considered buying a Heil, but balked at the price. For such an inexpensive headset the Koss SB-45 headset offers some surprising features:
- Anisotropic ferrite magnet structures
- Soft, leatherette ear cushions
Bottom line: Heil makes great products, but I don’t need its advanced features such as controlling the volume in each ear or listening to a second receiver in one ear.
This low-end Koss does a really nice job for me and meets my needs at 1/12 the cost of a Heil.
